Resisting Retail Challenge!

Alright you guys, I’m going to take this challenge!

Click here to see my visual wardrobe library, everything I’m wearing next year!

I just made it up after looking through my closet and drawers the other day. After hanging everything up and putting things away, I realized that I had just about everything I’d need to wear without having to buy more clothes. So I asked myself, can I go a year without buying more clothes? What would I do with the money I usually spend on fashion each month? I decided to write up some rules and make this a year long quest to find the answers to those questions. If you decide you want to join me, here are the rules!

Resisting Retail Challenge Rules

  1. 30 Day Grace Period

Determine if there are any more items that you would need to complete your wardrobe and then go buy them before the first 30 days have passed. You can only add up to 10 items, so choose wisely. Once this stage is over, you can’t buy any more clothes for the remaining 335 days (socks and underwear are exceptions to this rule).

  2. Determine the Time Frame

I saved this for the second step because you’ll want to think of a time frame that you feel would be right for you. If you have a slight addiction to shopping, 365 days might be too hard to consider. Maybe for you it’s three months, or six months.

  3. Enjoy the Challenge

Now that you don’t have to worry about shopping for clothes, get creative with the ones you have. Try different combinations based on color, pattern, theme, season or number of items in one OOTD. Ask your friends and supporters to put together outfits and wear those. I plan to do this a lot during my challenge and have photographed everything that I will be wearing outside of the house (excluding exercise gear which I don’t wear unless I’m actually working out).

  4. Spend the Cash on Something Else or Save It

Since you’re not buying clothes, you should have some extra money at your disposal. Decide what you want to do with it. I plan on getting some of my work clothes tailored, going to local events, buying a GoPro camera and whatever else I can think of. Maybe a good incentive for you is saving the money for something else that you need or want like a huge shopping spree at the end of this challenge.

  5. Evaluate Your Wardrobe

These are some things to keep in mind during the challenge (you’ll want to answer these questions when it’s all over). What do you seem to be wearing most days? What have you worn the least while taking the challenge? Is there something you can donate to charity? Did you learn or grow in some way while taking this challenge? Were you inspired in other areas?

If you plan on taking this challenge, let me know in the comments and post something about it on your blog. I’d love to see how you decide to spend the extra cash and what combinations of outfits you come up with.

August 17th OOTD: Stripes and Floral

My husband loves when I wear the color pink. He also loves anything skirts and dresses so I decided to combine both of those for my OOTD on Monday. It may sound cheesy, but I like to think that when he looks at me, he likes what he sees. I also strive to wear things that make me feel positively about myself and this was definitely a winner on both sides. It kind of reminds me of the 90s mixed with today’s style. A lovely librarian, a substitute teacher that all the kids like. These are the kinds of images and feelings that I got when I wore this. What do you think of?

The top is from Banana Republic divided at the waist by my brown Old Navy Belt. I got this vintage skirt from a thrift store and my earrings from Charming Charlie. The necklace costed $1 from a costume jewelry shop at the mall.

July 31, OOTD: Hot Outside, Cold Indoors

To finish off the month of July, I combined a mini dress, denim jacket and thrifted shorts for work. It’s getting really hot outside so my wardrobe is starting to get interesting, depending on how cold it is in the office in comparison to how hot it is outside. I wasn’t sure how this would turn out but once I took these pics, I felt pretty good about it. Thank goodness for loose dress codes at work. The other day I wore a button down top and proceeded to sweat all day long. haha.

Let me know what you think about this and feel free to leave a comment.

July 21st OOTD: Mixing Graphics with Textures

It’s been too long since I’ve posted an OOTD. I’ve been working on my Youtube Channel and networking with bloggers a lot lately. My husband has even agreed to vlog with me over the weekends so things are really starting to come together. It’s been fun recording together but in the mist of all that, I forgot to blog, sorry! I’ll get back on my OOTD and capsule wardrobe game stat! Speaking of, here’s what I wore today. I can’t remember where this top is from but I found it in a drawer and decided to wear it to work. I’d usually wear jeans with something like this so I decided to ditch that tradition and go for this thrifted red skirt instead. This bracelet was a gift from Brandon, originally bought at Royal Bleau in Jackson, MS. Then I just put on some comfy flats and skipped the make-up for the day. What do you think?

I’m on Youtube!

As some of you may know, I’ve been working on new content for a Youtube Channel that I’m launching this Sunday, July 5th (happy birthday to me!). I’ve posted a channel preview to give you guys an idea of what I’ll be making videos on. It’s a lot of work putting videos and keywords and thumbnails together but fun too. I’ve got lots of material and just need to make some time each day to create! Please check out my video and subscribe to my channel !!!

June 25th 2015 OOTD: Green is on the Menu

Today my work day began with a stressful email from a client. I didn’t let that bother me. Instead I focused on the things I could do well while listening to music and brainstorming ideas for the future. I have began to reach out to other bloggers in the area in order to start collaborating soon! I’m so excited. Aside form new content, I hope to make some good connections and a few friends too. Any ways, I pulled out my green blazer from Love Culture and my 7 skinny jeans from Macy’s. I took a note form yesterday’s OOTD and decided to take a mini summer dress that I found at the thrift store and wear it like a top instead. I wanted to show off some curves so I belted the blazer with a skinny belt from Forever 21. Let me know what you think!

June 24th OOTD: Remixing my Forever 21 Dress

Today I decided to try something different with my OOTD. I grabbed my thrifted purple skirt (Hillard & Hanson) and paired it a dress from Forever 21. With a little tucking and the right ear rings, I wound up with a colorful draping effect on top and a classic fit on the bottom. I wanted to be comfortable so I just tossed on some tan sandals (I think from Payless actually). Today was even better because I got to chat with an old friend. Now on to the video editing! My Youtube channel launches on July 5th. If you read my blog on the regular basis, feel free to let me know what you’d like to see. I’m thinking art, fashion, photos and logging.

June 23rd OOTD: Feeling Spiffy

Today I wanted to wear something that made me feel powerful and professional so I opted for this look. It’s a blue button down from Banana Republic, coupled with these grey plaid slacks and my DSW wedges. I wore my glasses but didn’t wear them here because the light kept causing a glare. It was a no make up kind of day. I can tell my confidence is building because I have started to edit my images less over time. Maybe I’ve been doing a better job of taking care of myself. I used to avoid wearing this shirt because I felt like it was a little too close fitting. Now it fits perfectly as if it were tailored. Hooray for progress!

June 22nd OOTD: It’s Monday Again

Today was a pretty slow day work wise. I was glad because I stayed up until 3am finishing my twists. I hope these last for awhile. It’s going to be nice not having to do my hair everyday. Today I decided to be comfortable and feminine. I went with this gathered black top from New York & Company and this tie-dye skirt from the thrift store. It was made by a company called Alberto Makali. I finished it off with some flat black shoes but I didn’t bother putting them on for these shots. I guess you’ll have to use your imagination.

Careless OOTD in June: My Nike Zip Up

Sometimes you just don’t care about the way  you are dressed. All you want is to be comfortable and to watch Youtube videos all day. Is that too much to ask? If you have bills and obligations, yea, it is. But while I’m tending to that big list of responsibilities, I’m going to do it in tennis shoes.

The other day I went to work dressed like this. The dress code at my job is almost non-existent, luckily for me. It’s freezing half of the time so i grabbed a camisole and added this purple Nike zip up jacket. I put on some grey jeans and gold Coach tennis shoes because that’s what my hand landed on when I went into my closet. Since my clothes were pretty much random, I put on some make up and jewelry to keep things interesting and headed out the door. What kind of clothes/looks do you wear on days when you just don’t care about fashion? Do you have those kind of days or are you a well polished fashionista every day? Clearly, I’m not there yet. hahah.
