29/365 Quiet Morning

Just sipping and thinking. It was cold today so I laid some tights under these thrift store jeans that I distressed myself with a seam ripper. I may have to change the times/order that I do things in the evening. This current routine doesn’t quite feel right…

Thrift Fitness & Lounge Haul

Elleword - this is the first hoodie that I've had since college. I love it!

Two weeks ago, I made a bee line for my favorite thrift store. It was Wednesday, or as I like to call it, the Thrift Shopper’s Dream Day because all of the clothes were half off. I wasn’t sure what I’d find but I was excited to see what they had to offer. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I found five formal gowns to add to my studio wardrobe inventory for my portrait clients. They ranged from $6 to $1! Once I scooped up the dresses, I started looking for items for my own wardrobe.

Elleword - I found lots of cute pink items at the thrift store this week, most of it was fitness and lounge wear.

Most of the items that I found were fitness and lounge wear. I was especially thrilled to have found fitness shorts and skorts since I usually have to roll up my sweat pants to workout in the summer. The gold shorts that I found are made of very lightweight fabric and look something I imagine a sexy boxer would wear, lol. I also found a thin screen printed hoodie that is perfect for wearing around the house and outside when it gets a little nippy (or for protection against the sun). I found a great pair of spiderman printed joggers in the men’s section along with a StarWars t-shirt (my first sci-fi paraphernalia!).

My favorite finds from that trip was a pink trench style rain coat (a surprise gift for my Mom), a pink polka dotted skirt with a beige stripe at the bottom and a pink waist-lentgh blazer with black lace in the back. I can’t wait to take it for a spin at my next networking opportunity! I also plan to wear it for other occasions like church, dates and client consultations! I’ll be starting up my daily OOTD and weekly capsules again and these pink numbers are sure to make a few appearances.

After this trip to the thrift store, I’m down to 13 slots left in my 100 item curated wardrobe. Once I reach 100, I’ll create a visual library to help me keep track of what I’ve worn and give me ideas for new combinations. What have you been wearing lately? Find any treasures at your local thrift store that you absolutely love? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

August 17th OOTD: Stripes and Floral

My husband loves when I wear the color pink. He also loves anything skirts and dresses so I decided to combine both of those for my OOTD on Monday. It may sound cheesy, but I like to think that when he looks at me, he likes what he sees. I also strive to wear things that make me feel positively about myself and this was definitely a winner on both sides. It kind of reminds me of the 90s mixed with today’s style. A lovely librarian, a substitute teacher that all the kids like. These are the kinds of images and feelings that I got when I wore this. What do you think of?

The top is from Banana Republic divided at the waist by my brown Old Navy Belt. I got this vintage skirt from a thrift store and my earrings from Charming Charlie. The necklace costed $1 from a costume jewelry shop at the mall.

5.7.15 OOTD – Hubby Drops By

I was really excited today. Brandon returned from his business trip. We watched tv and I made us some smoothies and salads. Tomorrow he is hitting the road again to surprise his parents for Mother’s day. I’m glad he’ll be able to visit them but I will miss him… again, lol. Any who, here’s my OOTD. I went out on the balcony since the weather was nice. My ear rings are from Charming Charlie (clearance aisle). My husband bought the shirt from Banana Republic for me two years ago. The shorts were bought from a thrift store. Feel free to comment!

4.12.15 OOTD While Running Errands

So the 10k finally hit my husband this morning. He woke up so sore and tired that we had to stay home from church. After four more hours of rest and a round of pain killers, I was able to get him out of the room for some lunch with a side of more meds. Since we still needed to grocery shop and do laundry, I decided to wear something easy to move in from this week’s capsule. Since I wasn’t going anywhere special, I skipped on wearing the slacks for the skinny jeans. The tiger shirt made another appearance with the collared pink shirt wrapped around my waist, something I don’t usually do with dress shirts. I’m happy with the results. Let me know what you think. If you have tried a weekly capsule, I’d love to see what items you picked out.

4.11.15 My OOTD while Enjoying Some Thrift Therapy

Today I got to go thrift shopping thanks to my husband. He ran a 10k today but he was kind enough to go out with me anyway. We had a good time and Brandon was even picking things up from the rack to see if I liked them. I love him. Anyways, I was kinda unsure about today’s outfit. I hadn’t yet worn the long patterned hoodie from this week’s picks so I pulled that out of my closet first. After seeing that it wouldn’t look good with the black skirt or the grey slacks, I just put my collared pink shirt over it without buttoning it up. Since it was cool out, I put on some black tights. Brandon liked it so that made me feel confident as we went from store to store. Eventually we went back home so he could rest before hanging out with the fellas. I’ve spent my evening doing a little experimenting with software, video doing some light core work on the floor. Let me know what you think about today’s outfit. It’s a real wild card but that’s the only way to tell if you can pull off an outfit.

4.10.15 Today’s Outfit (Weekly Wardrobe Capsule)

Cheers, it’s Friday! Today I felt like dressing up again, so I put on a dress that I found at the Goodwill. This dress was a size 10 until I tried my hand at making it fit with my sewing machine. I’m very happy with the result. You’ll see more of the dress later this week. Dresses are an outfit in one piece but I wanted to keep layering so I added the brown leather jacket by New York & Company, given to me by my Mom-in-law last year. Then I grabbed a pair of earrings that my Mom made for me and a pair of sandal wedges from DSW and bam, outfit completed. This is the first time I’ve paired leather with a cotton dress but I like the results. I think the pattern makes a great contrast with the brown and the golden buttons on my jacket. What do you think?

4.9.15 Today’s Outfit (Weekly Wardrobe Capsule)

Today I decided to dress up a bit. I grabbed my star ear rings and bejeweled necklace, both from Charming Charlie. Sticking with the layering theme, I wore my tiger print tee from the Salvation Army with my button up textured collared shirt from Banana Republic. To keep it on the formal side, I tucked my Banana shirt in but left it un-buttoned to reveal the tiger print. Then I finished it off with my black bow pencil skirt, a gift from my Mom a few years ago. My husband really liked this outfit, so I plan to do some repeats in the future. What do you think? 4.8.15 Today’s Outfit (Weekly Wardrobe Capsule)

Today I wore a grey shirt that I refashioned with a pair of skinny 7 jeans from Macy’s and my new DSW boots. My co-workers seemed to really like my shirt. It was all grey but I added strips of fabric from a cardigan I found at the thrift store. It’s always pretty cool at my job so I layered the shirt on top of a camisole. Let me know what you all think!

Weekly Capsule April 8 – 15

Ok, so I had to start my capsule mid week this time around but here we go. The items I chose this week. I decided to make pink my accent color and experiment with layering this week. I’m not sure how well things will pan out but I feel pretty hopeful about them. I also bough two pairs of shoes! I still need a few more pairs to have enough variety in that area. I only have a few pairs, most of them being casual, so the next pair or two will be dressy.
