I have been focusing my blogger brain on getting my 365 photos taken each day but I miss my OOTD and capsule wardrobe posts. I guess with the holidays and work, I’ve been too swept up in getting my life in order. Don’t worry, fashion shall return!!
I’m currently juggling three huge projects and they are taking up all of my time and energy to produce. I haven’t blogged on here in so long, my apologies. Hence, I’m making some changes. I want to turn Elleword into a photo diary. Life and Style will still be the main theme but I’m doing it for the love of sharing and tracking my days as I live life courageously. Let me know what you think of the new direction. Here are my pics from today. Sorry, some of them are not as great because I took them with my phone (I really need to upgrade!!).
I’m getting back to OOTDs so I can force myself to dress well every day. I can’t be walking around looking crazy if I expect to reach out to potential clients on a moment’s notice. After I got dressed, I headed across the street to a new coffee shop that opened up recently. It is so cute! I found a great spot to do some business planning for Gernelle Nelson LLC and two top secret projects that I can’t yet share but am stoked about! Here are some pics from the coffee shop.
And now for my OOTD. I wore way more neutrals than usual for this look, including my husband’s sweater from Express. I call it my tomboy style, haha.
That’s all for now. I’m off to cook dinner!
Yesterday I got lots of work done for a new video based class that I’m going to teach on Skillshare as a way to make passive income. It’s the first of many! I recorded myself working as well as an intro and conclusive video. Now all that’s left are the voiceovers. I hope to finish those before my interview today for a part time marketing assistant gig.
I wore a thrifted Rue 21 peach colored top with lace netting on the shoulders. My skater skirt is from my lounge and fitness thrift haul. I felt so flirty and cute in this. I wore brown wedge shoes (not shown) as Brandon and I hit the Salvation Army to buy supplies for the camping trip I’m chaperoning next week.
Gone on any thrift shops lately? I’d love to see what you bought. Leave me a link or comments below.
This just in, I’m going camping next week! My church is taking a group of teens to Kids Across America camp for a week of fun away from parents and technology. We’ll also have time to bond with the kids and have bible study with them every other day. I’ll be chaperoning, I’m so excited! The last time I went to an overnight camp was in college when my husband (then boyfriend) Brandon invited me to go to Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp over the weekend. Since then, I’ve been longing to go camping again. I even sewed a vintage comforter together to make my own sleeping bag! The only catch is that there is a dress code for camp which wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t ban just about every piece of clothing in my closet. No yoga pant, fitted athletic wear or skinny jeans. >__<
I needed camp clothes that won’t send a group of boys into a conniption so Brandon and I headed off to the Salvation Army. After looking through both the men’s and women’s sections, we found enough stuff for my trip. Excluding the ‘hotcake hustle’ tee and black jeans, all of these items are my new camp digs. Yes, two of the items are super comfy skirts that are too long to get blown by the wind but durable enough to hike in. Of course, I’ll be wearing tights underneath to keep my legs from being bitten up by mosquitos. It’s almost unbelievable that I managed to find two bathing suits and both cute! Two piece suits are banned so I was relieve to find these two cuties.
I still have plenty of things to add but I made sure to grab sunscreen, OFF Deep Woods, extra toothbrushes in case some of the girls forget theres, feminine products to share, wet wipes and snacks. While the kids cannot bring electronics, I’ll have my phone and laptop to work with during free times and at night when the girls are relaxing/sleeping. I plan to keep it in my backpack so it will never leave my side! I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to log the fun but I hope to get some pics during the week of my little camping adventures. Hiking, treetops, and water skiing, here I come!
Today I want to celebrate my freedom, not just democratically but the kind that comes with working for yourself. I’m still in the beginning stages of my company but building it has been a great experience. I landed an interview tomorrow for a marketing assistant gig that will take up 10 hours a week. If I get the job, I’ll have a nice little stream of income to use while I build my own clientele. Heres something you’re likely to see me wearing this summer as I work on company projects and marketing materials.
Sticking to my love of sustainable fashion, I got this top from my mom when I helped her purge her closet. I think I bought these shorts at retail price but it’s hard to remember. Working at home means you don’t have to wear shoes!
To keep up with the Thrift it Clique’s OOTD posts, I put together this simple Independence Day inspired outfit. This white v-neck tee was bought for fun dance that I did with a group of girls and women at a basketball last month. Underneath the t-shirt, I wore a royal blue camisole and finished my patriotic look with my thrifted red jeans.
This year, my husband and I are taking it easy for Independence Day. This morning, we loaded Justice (woof) up with his travel backpack and took a long walk around the neighborhood. We had to pause about a block away from home so Justice could rest his paws. He’s pretty stocky (and furry) so we have to be conscious of when he’s getting tired and take a break.
After that, we camped out in front of our laptops. I watched episodes of Tiny Toons and sketched up a four panel comic as Brandon laughed at pranksters on Youtube. We’re planning on spending the rest of our time swimming and snacking. Sigh, this is the life!
Summer is here and I’m loving every moment of it! My husband and I went swimming twice this past weekend and I’ve taken up doing morning yoga and walking Justice (woof) in the evenings. I love that it’s still warm after sunset! My friend and her bestie just moved into our complex so I’m looking forward to visiting them this week!
Today’s another day ‘at the office’ as I edit images, prep blogs, post on social media and write up paid blog postings. After stretching this morning, I felt really loose and calm. To boost my mood, I decided to wear my thrifted green maxi dress ($2 I believe) and a necklace that I bought from Charming Charlie a year ago. I’m spending most of the day at home, hence my bare feet. This dress is really soft, flowy and comfortable. I can do anything in a maxi!
Once I finish up work for the day, I’m going to start prepping for Brandon’s birthday tomorrow! We are going to have some family over, eat and play a few games. He said he just wanted to chill which means I’ll be spending the day cleaning up our place and getting ready for guests to arrive! In between that, I hope to record a few videos for my Youtube channel. Working on my own has me so inspired!
The Thrift It Clique has come together once again for a collaborative style post, this time on summer style. I thought it over for awhile and decided to wear something that reflected my new lifestyle as full-time creative entrepreneur. Since I work from home, I like to be comfortable unless I’m going out. Plus, it’s like 500 degrees outside. I’ll be wearing light colored fabric, as usual, and showing a bit more leg this season.
In other news, Brandon went out of town for five days for work so I decided to take a trip to Nae’s house. Justice (woof) and I packed up our gear and hopped into her car to hit the road. It was nice to work away from the apartment and spend time with my sister and nephew and brother-in-love. Seems like we’ve all been pretty busy lately. Justy and I went home the next day and I got to work on this week’s busy work for my company.
For this OOTD I decided to wear a tan cami underneath a thrifted loose graphic tee that reminds me of lineart from a sketchbook. To finish things off I added my polka dotted beige shorts, also thrifted, originally from J Crew. You can’t see my shoes because I’m not actually wearing shoes, hahah. It’s summer time and I guess I feel much freer without shoes and socks on my feet. Though I wouldn’t suggest walking outside barefoot. The ground is hotter than the air! Speaking of, don’t forget to protect your dog’s feet from being scorched by the ground. Keep them in the grass and dirt or else they could get injured.
This weekend, I went the to Grove for the Dallasites101 anniversary party. I didn’t get to meet Lily and Kara, the co-founders, but I did manage to run into Becca from Beckley Co. Once I arrived, I called up Gernae (twin sis) and found my way to her table. My brother in love was also there, decked out in KC Royals t-shirts. Both of them looked like they were in good spirits. Maybe it was because of the music DJ Blake was playing. He did an awesome job of mixing 90’s rap with today’s pop music. After a short while, I walked over to the Vita Coco stand with Nae and asked them about the benefits of coconut water.
The ladies told us that it was 3x as hydrating as water and naturally enriched with vitamins and electrolytes. We’re always looking for reasons to try something new so we grabbed one of each flavor: lemonade, pineapple and cafe latte. I didn’t get to try the pineapple but between the latte and lemonade flavors, I like the latte best. The flavor was a little strange at first but after shaking it up and giving it another try, I started to like it more. It was almost chocolatey. I wonder what coconut water tastes like by itself.
A volleyball game was underway as I walked around getting footage for my vlog. I wanted to lounge in a hammock but they were all occupied so I started searching the crowd for great outfits. It didn’t take long. 🙂 The first person I talked to was Jazmine, SEO manager for Poopourri. She was really kind and even invited me to a Bible study on Tuesday nights. We exchanged information and business cards and she let me take a picture of her for my blog. Poopourri traps odor under the surface of toilet water. In other words, you won’t stink up the place when you take a restroom break. I’ve got to give some of that a try.
We wrapped things up by taking some pics on the Photo Bus and then headed our separate ways. I’m looking forward to seeing what other events I can get into this spring. Speaking of that, I’m throwing an event! It’s called the Spring Fling Meet and Eat. I’ll be meeting up with ladies to network, snack on picnic brunch and give out some photo/pose tips. Hope to see ya there!
This past week, I got together with my friends from the Thrift It Clique to cover our monthly OOTD meetup. This month’s theme was centered around Rose Quartz and Serenity, this year’s official Pantone colors. If you look around any store or outlet mall, these colors are all over the place. This year is unique because there are two chosen colors instead of the usual one. Pantone’s selection of it’s yearly hue impacts the entire fashion and product industry! I’m especially happy because Rose Quartz falls perfectly in line with my signature style color scheme.
Any who, I met up with the ladies at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden to take some pics in our threads before the sun got too high in the sky. As usual, we all were in good spirits as we strolled through path after path of gorgeous flowers and displays. By the time we wrapped things up, we had plenty of pics taken and went our separate ways. Here is what I wore. This multi-toned dress was a clearance item at Charming Charlie’s. It is very comfortable and and chic at the same time. I plan to experiment with this dress and other items in my wardrobe to figure out how many unique looks I can come up with. The shoes were bought from Target a year ago but they are a regular staple on the shelves.
Before I go, I want to invite any Dallas locals reading this to my Spring Fling Meet and Eat on May 21st. This will be two hours of networking, snacking and learning a thing or two about getting better photographs of yourself. Be sure to bring a picnic brunch, blanket and business cards. I’ll be giving away a few prizes as well. There is no fee to participate. You only need to pay admission into the arboretum.
