When I was a child, I wanted the ability to fly. Peter Pan was one of my favorite movies to watch and I often imagined that if I jumped off the swing at just the right angle, I’d somehow defy gravity and just keep going upward. Well, I never managed to figure that out but this year, I flew! I did indoor skydiving with my husband and felt the sensation of flight, minus the arm flapping or amazing views of the landscape. It was invigorating. With the new year approaching, I want to fly in other ways.
One of my personal challenges is asking for help or seeking opportunities where I’ll be working with others. Group projects were the bane of my existence in school because I usually got paired up with people who weren’t focused. As an adult, I’ve learned that there are still plenty of people out there who aren’t pulling their weight on projects but expecting some kind of awesome turnout. But there’s also some passionate hard working people who are doing incredible things with others. I was inspired to try more collaborative work after working with my friends on a styled shoot this year. I’m still concerned about finding the right people to work with so my projects don’t fail. I’m still unsure of my own consistency or confidence. I’m still moving forward!
Wearing the shirt Brandon bought for me on our honeymoon, it says Coacoa Beach twice on the front of it. That’s the first beach we ever went to together. The second was a beach in Cuba this past June. Third was Little Elm Beach a few months back (beaches in Texas, who knew?!). After hearing the lyrics of a Joe song, Brandon asked me if there really were beaches with black sand in the world. I told him yes and he added that to his list of places to see in the world. Life’s a beach.
Today I had a lot of energy so I put all I had into attacking the clutter in my apartment. It’s a good thing too, since I had a mountain of clothes to wash. Midway through, I started singing along to Spotify and thought, hey, get this on camera. I even used my DSLR! I still need to put away about 40% of the now clean clothes but at least I have more wardrobe options again! Aside from laundry, I’ve been doing a lot of correspondence with clients and edits for commissioned work. This month has been pretty good for business!
I almost forgot to take today’s picture! This project has been fun and annoying so far but I’m enjoying pushing myself to do this each day. It forces me to try something different and document a little part of my day. Over time, I’ll be able to look back on a year in pictures! I need to use my DSLR camera more for this project however. I didn’t bother setting up an interesting view/pose but it still looks pretty interesting I think. My phone camera sucks so the contrast was pretty harsh, I decided to just make it black and white.
It’s getting cold outside and that air blows up and down the hallways of our building. When I go to the gym, I put on layers so I don’t freeze on my way in and out. When I took this pic, I was pretty tired from jumping on the elliptical. Haven’t gotten my pre-thanksgiving stamina back yet!
We spent the evening at the home of a really kind couple (they are on the far left). A lot of Brandon’s co-workers were there so we took this pic before the end of the night. We went for the first time last year and had a blast so I was happy they invited us again. We made sure to leave gift bottle of Bellini. Turns out, its our hostesses’ favorite! Afterwards, we made our way back to our side of town and I paid the rent for my shared studio space. Gotta order some new checks pronto!
We forgot to renew our registration so I had to get our ride inspected. The dealership has a nice waiting area and free coffee/coacoa. Once I got to the motor vehicles office, I only waited for about 5 minutes before it was my turn. Didn’t expect that to happen!
Sometimes I find myself standing in random places around my apartment, thinking about my plans, goals and how they affect my overall mental health. I’m still learning a lot about myself and what habits and environments make me feel happy, productive or calm. Sometimes when I’m feeling anxious, it’s because I haven’t moved my body around much in a few hours. The quickest way to cure that is to go downstairs to sweat on the elliptical or try some free weights in the gym. I rarely stay in there long, but even a few minutes can really help my mood. It’s easier to focus too.
Just sipping and thinking. It was cold today so I laid some tights under these thrift store jeans that I distressed myself with a seam ripper. I may have to change the times/order that I do things in the evening. This current routine doesn’t quite feel right…
This time next week I’ll be in Saint Louis with family we haven’t visited in a long time. I hope we can make some great memories and relax. My goal is to keep Brandon from trying to work while we’re there.
